IN 1996 BOTH WENDY AND I WERE LOOKING FOR SOME NEW VENTURE TO EXCITE AND CHALLENGE US.

Our love of design came partly from my early ambitions in art and partly from Wendy's talents in fashion and style.

Nurtured during the swinging psychedelic sixties in a vibrant Adelaide and further nourished in seventies London where Wendy worked at both the legendary big BIBA store and the Kensington BUS STOP while I toured with bands; it was in London that we also successfully designed, manufactured and marketed resin jewellery.

Back in Melbourne Wendy managed a variety of bespoke shops retailing fashion, ceramics, giftware and jewellery, while I added some poster design to my music. it was while playing guitar in Alphabet City that I spotted the vacant shop premises in Westgarth, Northcote that became 's first location, opening on the 1st December, 1996, moving in mid 2004 to 307 High St, Northcote.

Always specializing in so called "mid century" design, commonly known as "retro" (a new term in 1996) our style has refined itself over the years to now be predominately Danish and other Scandinavian and modernist design furniture, often the Australian version of this world design stream, brands such as Tessa, Fler, Parker, Danish Deluxe and Module. Ceramics, lamps and lighting, paintings and prints, fabrics and other homewares of a certain style are complemented by jewellery, (often French plastics such as Lea Steine) clothing, greeting cards, vintage magazines, Hi Fi components and vinyl records.

Possibly this variety has added to our appeal, but I suspect its the (for me) surprising pleasure of interacting with the very appealing group of people who are our customers and clients that makes our store "work".

With no previous experience in the field myself I'm only too aware of the wealth of experience and the level business head that Wendy has brought to our enterprise, and its her contribution that makes it possible for me to continue my career in music as well.

please come by and see what I mean!
